Former opener Virender Sehwag has revealed that he was approached to replace Anil Kumble as the head coach of Team India. However, Sehwag also revealed that he turned down the offer because he could not find the support staff of his choice. Let us tell you that Kumble left the post of coach after India’s defeat to Pakistan in the final of Champions Trophy 2017. At that time, the names of many former veteran players were discussed for the post of coach, in which Sehwag was also included.

When Kumble was India’s coach, the team was commanded by Virat Kohli. It is said that the relationship between the two was nothing special. Sehwag revealed during News18 India Chaupal that Kohli and the then BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary had approached him to become the coach.

Sehwag said, “If Virat Kohli and Amitabh Chaudhary had not approached me, I would not have applied. We had a meeting and Chaudhary told me that things are not going well between Kohli and Kumble. In such a situation, we want you to take up the responsibility of coaching. They told me that Kumble’s contract will end after Champions Trophy 2017 and then you can go with the team to West Indies tour. I didn’t get this option so I didn’t go to West Indies.

At the same time, when Sehwag was asked if he had any regrets for not becoming the captain of the Indian team, the former opener said that he was satisfied with what he achieved. Sehwag said, “Not at all, I am happy with what I have achieved.
