Both Virat Kohli and Captain Rohit Sharma have not played a single T20 International match since the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. First both were rested for the tour of New Zealand and after that both were not part of the team in the recent home T20 International series against Sri Lanka. Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee announced the Indian squad for the T20 International series against New Zealand. In this also the names of both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not been included. Former Team India captain Mohammad Azharuddin spoke openly on the T20 International future of both.

When Times of India asked Azhar about this, he replied, “Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are experienced players. We have seen many match winning innings of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. But now the time has come that we should also give a chance to young cricketers. When Rohit Sharma was asked about his future in T20 International before the start of the home ODI series against Sri Lanka, Rohit had said that no decision has been taken on it yet.

Rohit had then said, ‘I have not left T20 International completely. Now let’s see what happens after IPL. Team India reached the semi-finals in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, but were eliminated after losing by 10 wickets against England.
