Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Wednesday dismissed sexual harassment claims made by the country’s top wrestlers, saying “if anything like this has happened, I will hang myself”. Let us tell you that in a shocking revelation, Vinesh Phogat wept on Wednesday alleging that Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been sexually abusing women wrestlers for many years. The wrestlers sought the intervention of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to remove them.

“There has been no incident of sexual harassment,” the BJP MP said, according to news agency ANI. The clarification from the WFI president comes at a time when several wrestlers have alleged that they were sexually harassed. World championship medalist and Olympian Vinesh claimed that women wrestlers were also exploited by several coaches at the national camp in Lucknow. He alleged that there are some women in the camp who approach wrestlers at the behest of the WFI president.

The 28-year-old wrestler, however, clarified that she herself has not faced such abuse. He claimed that he had received death threats from officials close to him at the behest of the WFI president because he had dared to draw Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attention to these issues during his meeting after the Tokyo Olympic Games.

After sitting on a dharna for over four hours at Jantar Mantar here, Vinesh said, “I know at least 10-12 women wrestlers who have told me about the sexual harassment faced by the WFI president. He told me his stories. I cannot name them right now but if we meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minister of the country, I can definitely reveal the names.
