UP: New tender floated for prepaid meter purchase, Consumer Council demands this from Regulatory Commission

Pre Paid Electricity Meter: Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam has removed a new tender on Monday after canceling the tender for the purchase of smart prepaid meters. In which applications have been sought for the purchase of smart meters afresh. On the other hand, in this case U.P. Awadhesh Kumar Verma, President of State Electricity Consumer Council, U.P. By filing a petition in the Electricity Regulatory Commission, the tender of other power companies has also been demanded to be cancelled.

The officials of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam have confirmed that the tender will be taken out afresh. The Managing Director and Director of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam kept avoiding talking to the media. The President of the Consumer Council has revealed that Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam has taken out a fresh tender.

Through a petition filed in the Commission on behalf of the Consumer Council, it has been demanded that GMR, who quotes the lowest rate in Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam, Adani Group, who quotes the lowest rate in Dakshinchal, and Intelli Smart, who quotes the lowest rate in Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam, The tender should also be canceled immediately. Fresh tenders for the purchase of smart meters should be done in small clusters so that meter manufacturing companies can also participate in the tender. If meter manufacturing companies participate in the tender, the rates will come down. When Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam has canceled the tender due to higher rate than the proposed rate, then the tender of other companies should also be cancelled. The minimum rates of other companies are also 40 to 65 per cent higher than the proposed rate.

This is smart prepaid meter case

The tender to buy 2.5 crore smart prepaid meters in the state at a cost of Rs 2500 crore was held recently. The minimum rates of the big private houses which qualified the tender are also 40 to 65 percent more than the proposed rate of Rs 6000 per meter. Due to which the power companies are not awarding the tender even after the completion of the tender process. Madhyanchal has canceled its tender due to higher rate quoted in the tender.
