These three players will have to show their strength in the second ODI, Wasim Jaffer said – need to take responsibility
India will look to seal the series against the world’s top-ranked ODI team during the second ODI in Raipur. Jaffer wants to see the captain of the team playing a big innings from Rohit Sharma.
By winning the second ODI against New Zealand, India will have a golden chance to seal the series. The Indian team managed to win by just 12 runs in the first ODI played in Hyderabad. India had given a target of 350 to New Zealand, in response to which the Kiwi team managed to score 337 runs. Ahead of the second ODI, former cricketer Wasim Jaffer said that he would like to see Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav doing well.
Wasim Jaffer said in a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, “Rohit Sharma, Ishaan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav will have to take responsibility. Even Hardik Pandya. However, in the first ODI, he was dismissed in an unfortunate manner.
Actually, Hardik wanted to cut late on the good length ball that came on the off stump but the ball passed through his bat and got into the gloves of wicketkeeper Tom Latham. Latham was very close to the stumps and during that time the bails fell. It was clearly seen in the replays that the ball did not hit the bails but hit the gloves stumps. Hardik and Gill shared a 74-run partnership in 67 balls.
Mitchell Santner ready to rain fours and sixes in the second ODI, did this in his performance in the last 12 months
Jaffer said that he especially wants to see Rohit score a century. Rohit has 29 ODI centuries to his name, but he has not scored a century since 2020. He said, “The three will definitely have to step up. It’s been a long time since we saw Rohit’s century in ODIs. He is batting well but we haven’t got to see a century.
