Shubman Gill became number-1 leaving behind Virat Kohli-Shikhar Dhawan, narrowly saved Fakhar Zaman’s world record
Fakhar Zaman holds the world record for the fastest 1000 runs in ODIs. Fakhar Zaman did this feat in 18 innings, Shubman Gill left Virat-Dhawan behind by doing so in 19 innings.
Team India’s young opener Shubman Gill hit a strong century in the first match of the ongoing three-match series against New Zealand. Gill opened the innings with Rohit Sharma and did not panic at all even when wickets fell at one end. This is Gill’s second consecutive century in One Day Internationals. Gill also scored a century in the last match of the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Gill demolished a major record of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan during this innings. Gill is now the fastest batsman from India to complete 1000 runs in ODIs. Before him this record was recorded in the names of Virat and Dhawan. Both of them did this feat in 24-24 innings, while Gill did this feat in his 19th ODI innings. Gill, however, missed out on breaking Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman’s world record by just an innings.
Shubman Gill also scored a century against New Zealand, achieved a special achievement

Gill made this record in his name by hitting a four in 32.4 overs. Gill has left behind veteran batsmen like Viv Richards, Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, Quinton Dickock, Babar Azam in this list.
Rohit Sharma broke Dhoni’s record, became ‘Sixer King’ in ODI cricket
Gill and Rohit Sharma shared a 60-run partnership for the first wicket. Captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed after scoring 34 runs, after which Virat Kohli was dismissed after scoring just eight runs. Ishaan Kishan came to bat at number-4 but after scoring five runs off 14 balls, he too kept walking. India’s score was reduced to 110 runs for three wickets. After this Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed after scoring 31 runs. India had lost four wickets for 175 runs. Wickets were falling from one end, but it didn’t seem to affect Gill’s face and game. Gill was seen batting in the same way.
