If the proposal of the Power Corporation filed in the Electricity Regulatory Commission is approved, then getting a new electricity connection in the state will become expensive. The consumer will have to pay 15 to 20 percent more than the current rates for getting a new connection. In fact, the corporation has proposed 15 to 20 percent increase in the rates of consumer goods in the proposed cast data book. This proposal will be discussed in the meeting of the Supply Code Review Panel Sub-Committee on January 25.
Even though the Power Corporation has not increased the rates of security and processing fees, but if the proposal of the Corporation is approved, the estimate of new connections may increase by up to 20 percent. In fact, rates and steam rates for new electricity connections are prepared on the basis of Cast Data Book rates only. Here, Awadhesh Kumar Verma, chairman of the Consumer Council and member of the review panel sub-committee, raised objections to the corporation’s proposal by meeting the chairman of the commission, RP Singh. He requested that the Commission should take a decision in the interest of the consumer. According to Verma, the commission chairman assured that consumer interests will be taken care of. Awadhesh Verma said that the rates of consumer goods have come down significantly. In this case, the rates of cast data book should be reduced. The council will force to reduce the rates by presenting evidence before the commission.
