Sanjay Manjrekar wants a change in Virat Kohli’s batting position for Ishaan Kishan, suggests a completely different approach
Former Team India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Ishaan Kishan should come in the top order in the ODI series against New Zealand and in such a situation Virat Kohli should play at number four.
India won the three-match home ODI series against Sri Lanka 3-0 and now it is their turn to play the same number of ODIs against New Zealand. KL Rahul has been rested for the ODI series against New Zealand. In such a situation, Ishaan Kishan can be included in the playing XI. Ishaan hit a double century in the last ODI on Bangladesh tour, but did not get a chance to play in a single match against Sri Lanka. Former Team India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Ishaan Kishan should get a chance to bat in the top order against New Zealand. Not only this, he believes that for this there should be a change in the batting position of Virat Kohli. Virat comes to bat at number three in ODIs, while Manjrekar believes that Virat should come for batting at number-4 in the ODI series against New Zealand.
Manjrekar said, ‘It is going to be very tricky. This can make a player very upset. I can give you an idea to get out of this whole mess. Shubman Gill can come to bat at number-3 and in such a situation, Virat can leave the position of number-3 and move to number-4. He has done this against Sri Lanka years ago when Ambati Rayudu was included in the team.
Manjrekar said, ‘If Virat goes to number-4, then this mess will end. Ishaan Kishan can open the innings with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill can come to bat at number-3. Ishaan Kishan scored a double century and in the top it will also create a combination of left hander and right hander, which is not bad.
