Shahid Afridi-led Asia Lions (ALN) has become the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2023 champions. Asia Lions defeated Shane Watson’s World Giants (WGS) by 7 wickets in the final match played in Doha on 20 March. Asia Lions lifted the LLC Trophy for the first time. However, Afridi gifted this trophy to Asghar Afghan of Afghanistan. He said that he is gifting the trophy to the people of Afghanistan.

A video of Afridi is going viral on social media, in which he is seen with Asghar, Shoaib Akhtar and Misbah-ul-Haq of Asia Lions. In the video, Afridi says, “We have won this trophy. All the boys had tremendous efforts. I am specially giving this trophy to Asghar. Giving it to Asghar means that this trophy is for the people of Afghanistan on behalf of all of us.

A lot of reactions are coming on the social media on Captain Shahid gifting the trophy. While many people are calling it a step taken with good intentions, some questioned Shahid’s decision and said that he is doing politics. One user commented, “First destroy the other country, then give the trophy, there you go.” On the other hand, another user wrote about Afridi, “Isn’t this the same person who said that the Taliban Good for Afghanistan?

Talking about the LLC final, World Giants posted a score of 147/4 thanks to Jacques Kallis’ (78 not out) brilliant innings. In reply, Asia Lions easily won by losing 3 wickets in 16.1 overs. Upul Tharanga scored 57 and Tillakaratne Dilshan scored 58 for Asia Lions.
