Indian Premier League team Lucknow Supergiants coach Andy Flower believes that Lokesh Rahul can be the best captain of the Indian cricket team. Rahul has led the Indian team in seven ODIs, 3 Tests and one T20. Until recently, he was being considered as Rohit Sharma’s successor to lead the team in all three formats. But he is out of the Indian T20 International team due to his old style batting in limited overs cricket. Along with this, after becoming the champion in IPL, Hardik Pandya is the strongest contender to become India’s captain in limited overs format. He is already leading the Indian T20 team in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and Rahul.

Flower is currently serving with the Gulf Giants team. The coach of this franchise team of Adani Sport Line in the International League T20 has high hopes from his IPL captain. Flower said here on Saturday that Rahul has excellent batting skills and can lead the team in the best way.

Flower said, ‘KL (Rahul) is a great batsman. I love watching him bat. I first met him when I was coaching England Lions, we were playing against India A in Trivandrum. I have been keeping an eye on Rahul since then.

The former wicket-keeper batsman praised Rahul’s captaincy skills and said, “He is an amazing young player and a really good leader too, he is very calm.” I enjoy working with him.

When asked about Hardik’s emergence as captain, Flower said, “I believe Rahul will prove to be a good captain.” I do not know the other players very well, so would not like to comment on that.

He also wished Rahul a happy married life. Rahul is going to tie the knot with his girlfriend Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty. Flower has been coaching league teams in various countries and said he is enjoying his role with the franchise teams.

I have to change my coaching style according to the needs of the team. I get to experience the culture of different countries with different teams.
