India vs New Zealand ODI Series: The ODI series between India and New Zealand is going to start from Wednesday. Rohit Sharma, popularly known as ‘Hitman’, is very close to making a big record.
The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team whitewashed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the three-match ODI series. India registered a historic 317-run win against Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI on Sunday. Rohit scored 42 runs in 49 balls in the match. He hit 2 fours and 3 sixes during his innings. He added 95 runs for the first wicket with opener Shubman Gill (116 from 97 balls) and got the team off to a strong start.
Rohit equals Dhoni
Rohit may have missed the 48th half-century of his ODI career, but he has come close to making a big record. He has equaled former veteran Indian captain MS Dhoni in terms of hitting the most ODI sixes in India. Rohit and Dhoni have 123 sixes in ODI format in India. These two are followed by legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar and former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh in the list. Sachin hit 71 sixes in India while Yuvraj hit 65 ODI sixes in his career.
‘Sixer King’ to be made in NZ series?
Significantly, Rohit, who returned after recovering from a thumb injury, appeared in rhythm in the Sri Lanka ODI series. He collected 142 runs at an average of 47.33. He played a half-century innings. He finished third in the list of players who scored the most runs in the series. Rohit can become India’s biggest ‘Sixer King’ by surpassing Dhoni in the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, for which he just needs a ‘Big Hit’. The first ODI between India and New Zealand will be played in Hyderabad on Wednesday (January 18).
