Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar holds the world record for scoring the most runs in ODIs. Tendulkar has scored a total of 18426 runs in 252 innings of 463 matches. Team India captain Rohit Sharma has now left behind former Australian wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist in the list of players who have scored the most runs in ODI cricket. Before the first match of the ongoing three-match series between India and New Zealand, Rohit Sharma had 9596 runs in his account. On the other hand, Adam Gilchrist has 9619 runs in 279 innings of 287 matches. Rohit overtook Gilchrist in this race as soon as he scored the 24th run.

Now Rohit has reached number 16 in terms of scoring the most runs in ODIs and is not far away from joining the top-15. At number 15 is Mohammad Yusuf of Pakistan, who has scored 9720 ODI runs. Rohit’s innings of 83, 17 and 42 in the series against Sri Lanka have indicated a return to form. If Rohit continues his form, he will soon break into the top-15 in the list of batsmen who have scored the most runs in ODIs.
