The 23-year-old all-rounder Green had undergone surgery on his right finger. He is close to regaining full fitness after the surgery.

He broke a bone in his finger during the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa in December. Australia’s coach Andrew McDonald has already said that Green will not be able to bowl at the moment. Gilchrist said, “I think the selectors will field him at number six provided he is fully fit and the finger injury does not affect him.” On the other hand, the Australian team’s star batsman Steve Smith has said that playing Green’s first Test match seems difficult.
