India captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli hug during a practice session in Nagpur. Both the players are returning after a short break. The first match will start on February 9 in Nagpur.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team has started preparations for the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia. The players have reached Nagpur and also landed on the field on Saturday for practice. The team’s star players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested for the T20I series against New Zealand. Due to which both of them hugged during the practice session, the glimpse of which is seen in the video shared by BCCI and the picture of both of them hugging is going viral on social media.

This is the first time Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team against Australia. He has so far taken the command of India in only two Test matches. He was scheduled to play in the one-off Test against England in July, but was found to be Covid positive before the match. Due to which they were out. At the same time, before the Test series against Bangladesh, he suffered a thumb injury.

India have won the last three Border-Gavaskar Trophies and Rohit’s challenge will be to retain it in this series. In 2017 India lifted the trophy from the Kangaroos with a 2-1 win at home. In 2018/19, Kohli led the visitors to a 2–1 win. In this series, the Indian team would be expecting better performance from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both are very experienced and it will benefit the team.

Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid on Sunday said that the team’s focus will be on fielding, especially catching in the slips, in the Test series against Australia starting February 9. “Everyone is fit and it’s great to see the Test team back together,” Dravid said in a video posted on Twitter by the BCCI. We have played a lot of white ball cricket in the last few months.

He said, “Some of these players have come to play Test in the white-ball format and it was good to see them doing extra practice at the nets.” The Indian team is practicing nets at the VCA Stadium. The first Test will be played at the VCA Jamtha Stadium.
