The stylish batsman achieved the feat in the first ODI between India and New Zealand in Hyderabad on Wednesday. In the first ODI, Gill scored 208 runs in just 149 balls. He hit 19 fours and nine sixes in his innings. His strike rate during the innings was 139.60. With this, Gill has become the 8th batsman to score a double century in ODIs, while Gill is the fifth Indian batsman to score a double century in the ODI format.

The record for scoring the first double century in ODIs is held by India legend Sachin Tendulkar, while the record for the highest individual score in ODIs is held by India captain Rohit Sharma, who scored 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014.
