‘In any best playing XI in the world…’, according to veteran Andy Flower, Babar Azam is a player of this class
Former Zimbabwean cricketer Andy Flower has praised Babar Azam. Flower has been the coach of England and PSL team Multan Sultans. He is currently coaching Gulf Giants in ILT20.
Former Zimbabwe veteran cricketer Andy Flower has read the ballads of Pakistan team captain Babar Azam. In his eyes, Babar is one of the top cricketers in all three formats. Talking to Pakistani journalists in Dubai, he described Babar as a top class player. Flower is currently coaching the Gulf Giants in the UAE’s International League T20.
He said, “I consider Babar Azam a classy cricketer in all formats. He is a brilliant T20 cricketer. He has performed well in this format. He can be included in any best playing XI in the world. However, It depends how the Pakistani selectors see him. But I think he is a great cricketer.”
The former cricketer further said, “I think we all love aggression in the game. But I still feel there are different types of players in T20. It is up to the selectors, coaches and captain of the team how they want to balance it. Obviously power and aggression are important in the game but there are different ways of scoring runs in cricket.
Flower also made it clear that he will not become the coach of the Pakistan team in the near future. He said, “I am enjoying the experience of franchise cricket at the moment and I am very busy at the moment. I will continue this in the times to come. I think they (PCB management) know that I am currently busy with franchise cricket.”
