HRW demands ICC to ban Afghanistan cricket team, know what is the logic

Human Rights Watch i.e. HRW has demanded ICC to ban Afghanistan cricket team. It has been argued that the Taliban have taken away many rights from girls and women.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has called on the International Cricket Council (ICC) to suspend Taliban-ruled Afghanistan from ICC membership, as the Taliban regime has implemented regressive, anti-human rights policies in the country. The Taliban in Afghanistan has not given girls, women the right to education and participation in sports. Afghanistan’s newspaper Hast-e-Subh has reported this.

HRW said in a statement released on Monday that the request was made following the Taliban’s anti-women practices and policies. HRW director of global initiatives Minky Worden said Afghanistan’s suspension from participation in international cricket should remain in place until Afghan women and girls are once again allowed to participate in education and sport in the country .

Australia has refused to play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE in March. Cricket Australia has also made the same argument that the Taliban have adopted gender-based discrimination policies in Afghanistan. HRW had also asked the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to ban Afghanistan on 5 December 2022.
