A picture of a heavy avalanche was captured on camera in Sonamarg, Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. This is the second incident in the last two days in the popular hill station. The avalanche happened near the barracks of a construction company. The incident spread panic among the workers present there. According to reports, a low-intensity avalanche hit the Sarbal area of Sonamarg. The workshop of Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) is running here. Company officials told that everyone is safe.
It may be noted that two laborers from Kishtwar were killed on Thursday in an avalanche at the site of a construction company in Sonamarg in Ganderbal district. The latest case is also from this area. It can be seen in the video that a huge balloon of snow is coming fast towards the barrack, seeing which scared people are running towards the building shouting. Within seconds, a tsunami of snow completely engulfs the barracks. As the avalanche passes, the entire area is shrouded in a thick fog of snow accompanied by strong winds. In the video, a man asks others not to open their doors. At the end of the video, the roofs of the barracks are completely covered with snow.
Avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gurez, warning issued for 12 districts

According to officials, an avalanche warning has been issued for 12 districts including Bandipora following moderate to heavy snowfall a day earlier. Officials said that an avalanche occurred in Jurniyal village of Gurez this afternoon, but it did not cause any damage.
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) on Saturday issued a “high danger” avalanche warning for north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, while for Bandipora, Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban and Reasi districts. An avalanche warning of “moderate danger” has been issued.
“Avalanches are expected with high-level danger in areas above 2,000 meters in Kupwara district in the next 24 hours,” SDMA officials said. Avalanches are likely with ‘moderate danger’ in Bandipora, Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban and Reasi districts at altitudes above 2,000 meters in the next 24 hours. In Anantnag, Kulgam and Rajouri districts, there is a possibility of avalanches in areas with a height above 2,000 metres.
