The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim bail to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is serving life sentence for raping a minor girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao in 2017. Sengar had sought interim bail for his daughter’s marriage.
Sengar, a former BJP MLA lodged in Tihar Jail, had filed an application for interim bail and suspension of sentence on the ground of his daughter’s marriage. Earlier in the last hearing, advocate Kanhaiya Singhal, appearing for Sengar, had told that the wedding program of Sengar’s daughter is starting on January 18 and the marriage will take place on February 8. Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been granted interim bail by the court from January 27 to February 10 (15 days).
Significantly, Delhi’s CBI court had sentenced Kuldeep Sengar to life imprisonment in December 2019 in the Unnao rape case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh on Sengar. Kuldeep Sengar, a four-time MLA from Unnao, was accused of rape in 2017. For this, the court convicted him under section 376.
