Recently this player has revealed that the selectors had told him about getting a chance on Bangladesh tour, but he got a chance to play for India A and not for the senior team on this tour. Speaking to Times of India, Sarfaraz said, ‘During the Ranji Trophy final in Bangalore, when I scored a century, I met the selectors. I was told that “You will get a chance in Bangladesh. Be ready for that.” Recently I met Chetan Sharma sir (chief selector) when we were checking into the hotel in Mumbai. He told me not to be discouraged, and said that my time would come. Good things take time to happen. You are very close. You’ll get your chance. So, when I played another important innings, I had expectations.
He further said, ‘When the team was announced and my name was not there, I was very sad. Anyone in my place in this world would have been sad, because I expected to be chosen, but it didn’t happen. Yesterday, I was sad all day while we were traveling from Guwahati to Delhi. I was wondering what and why this happened. I was feeling very lonely.
The Mumbai team will play their next Ranji Trophy match against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium from Tuesday.
