In the Karseni Majre Arkha village of Unchahar Kotwali area in Rae Bareli district, a young man beat an old man to death with an iron rod while he was sleeping in a dispute over asking for gutkha. Police reached the information and took the dead body in possession and sent it to postmortem. On the Tahrir of the deceased’s son, the police have registered a case against the accused youth and sent him to jail.
Elder Ramfer Gautam (72 years), a resident of the village, used to run a Gutkha shop in the village itself. On Sunday, there was a dispute over asking for gutkha from Santlal Verma of the village itself. Elderly Ramfer slept in the evening after having dinner in the verandah of the house. It is said that Santlal reached there late night with an iron rod and attacked the old man with a sharp rod. The old man died on the spot in the incident. By the time the people of the house reached there, the accused fled from the spot. On the information of the family members, the police took the dead body into custody and sent it to the postmortem. On the Tahrir of Ramprakash, the son of the deceased, after registering a case against the accused Santlal, the police sent him to jail on Monday.
It is being told that the accused is mentally ill and used to eat gutkha by asking for gutkha from the elderly. There was a dispute on Sunday when the elderly refused to give gutkha. Kotwal Balendu Gautam said that accused Santlal has been arrested and sent to jail in the murder of the elderly.
