Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, badly trapped in the case of sexual exploitation of wrestlers, may resign soon
The Executive Committee and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Wrestling Federation of India has been convened on January 22 in Ayodhya, UP. Federation President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will also participate in this meeting.
Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh seems to be in trouble after the serious allegations leveled by the wrestlers. 30 prominent wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia have demanded action on Brij Bhushan. Brij Bhushan may offer to resign on 22 January. At the same time, the players held an important meeting on Thursday with the Sports Ministry on the whole controversy.

Earlier, three-time Commonwealth Games medalist and BJP leader Babita Phogat on Thursday became the ‘messenger’ of the government and assured fulfillment of their demands to the wrestlers sitting on dharna who are demanding dissolution of the Wrestling Federation of India. India’s top wrestlers, including three-time Commonwealth champion Vinesh Phogat and Olympic bronze medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, staged a sit-in at Jantar Mantar for the second consecutive day. They are protesting against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who has been accused of sexual harassment. Former wrestler Babita came to the protest site and listened to the demands of the wrestlers.
Babita said – I will try to find a solution
She said, “I will try to find a solution. I am a wrestler first and then a politician. I understand their pain and I will try to fulfill their demands.” Bajrang, Anshu Malik, Sakshi and Vinesh have demanded that the WFI be dissolved and a new federation be formed. As soon as Babita left, Bajrang, his wife Sangeeta, Vinesh, Sarita Mor, Anshu Malik, the last Panghal were also called by Sports Secretary Sujata Chaturvedi for talks. Besides him, Sports Authority of India Director General Sandeep Pradhan and Joint Secretary (Sports) Kunal also attended the meeting. Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Ravi Dahiya and World Championship silver medalist Deepak Punia also joined the protest along with many others.
Vinesh has made serious allegations against Brijbhushan
Vinesh on Wednesday claimed that the WFI president has been sexually harassing women wrestlers for many years. Singh has denied these allegations. Vinesh also alleged that women wrestlers have been exploited by several coaches at the national camp in Lucknow. On the other hand, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat, who reached the protest site in support of the wrestlers, was asked to leave by saying that they do not want to give political color to this demonstration. Bajrang said, “We request you madam not to make it political.”
